Terrance Mitchell (hamstring) and JR Nelson (groin) caused some breaths to be held as they both came off the field due to injury.

The “H”word is a bad word in any sport. It’s a word that usually lingers. So when word came across the wire that Terrance Mitchell was carted off due to injury during training camp practice on Thursday for the Kansas City Chiefs, many felt it would be the first big injury of training camp. Fortunately, we can all breathe easy now. Reports are coming in that it is just a sore hamstring.

Mitchell has the potential to win a starting gig this season, as his play on the field at the end of last season caught the eye of the Chiefs brass as well as the fans. Hopefully he sees the field again real soon. The 25 year old Mitchell came to the Chiefs after he cleared waivers in Houston last year. Originally drafted by Dallas in 2014, he has made a few stops around the league, but seems to have found his place in Kansas City.

J.R. Nelson also left early with an apparent groin injury. Nelson is an undrafted free agent corner out of Montana. Keith Baxter, another undrafted corner, also left the field with what seemed to be a wrist injury.

This is the uncomfortable time for fans across the league. With each new day more injuries come across the bottom line. Fortunately the Chiefs have largely avoided any significant injuries compared to other teams. Here’s hoping their good fortunate and health continues.
