Kansas City Chiefs sign defensive tackle Roy Miller

The Kansas City Chiefs have added to their defensive line with the addition of veteran free agent Roy Miller.
After the release of Jaye Howard earlier this offseason, the Kansas City Chiefs seemed content to let youth develop along the defensive front. However, with a new general manager in Brett Veach, there’s been a slight change in approach to the roster with the addition of veteran Roy Miller, formerly of the Jacksonville Jaguars.
The Jags released Roy Miller back in March, a move that shocked the lineman, after four seasons with the team. With so many investments trying to build the defensive line, Miller became expendable, especially as he’s attempting to return from an injury-shortened season after tearing his Achilles. Miller played in only six games last season for the Jags.
Miller has started 49 games for the Jaguars over the last four seasons and 83 overall in his NFL career, which also features four full seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as well. Miller is more of a traditional run stuffer, but he did have four of his career eight sacks in 2015, so maybe there’s some potential for him in the right scheme to disrupt the passer.
Miller now provides an immediate free agent to fill in Chris Jones’ shoes in training camp and play alongside him and fellow veteran import Bennie Logan heading into the regular season. It’s a rotation that will also include Allen Bailey and Rakeem Nunez-Roches.
