Chiefs Podcast: Don’t be afraid of starting Patrick Mahomes
Could the Chiefs go to Patrick Mahomes this season? Should they consider it? Joshua Brisco and Seth Keysor say yes.
On this episode of Roughing the Kicker, Joshua Brisco breaks down self-contradictory statements made by Joe Theismann and Herm Edwards regarding Kansas City Chiefs starting quarterback Alex Smith, then Joshua and
discuss why Patrick Mahomes rises above typical arguments for sitting a rookie quarterback.
Plus, the conversation also turns to what Seth learned from his film review of Chiefs wide receiver Chris Conley, the limits of the Chiefs offense, and why the Raiders are not an offensive juggernaut. Also, the Chiefs defense may be a bit more fragile than expected, running back Kareem Hunt should be here soon, and – in case you haven’t caught on yet – the Chiefs offense would be so much more fun (and more of a Super Bowl contender) with Patrick Mahomes under center.
Back to the current starting quarterback, it’s hard to disagree with Joe Theismann and Herm Edwards when it comes to NFL talent evaluation, but Theismann and Edwards both said confusing and – for my money – wrong things about Alex Smith, Tyreek Hill and the Chiefs’ offense. Plus, should a quarterback’s contract live above the typical discussion of the salary cap? Sometimes, yes. For the Chiefs? Absolutely not.
