6. Terrance Mitchell, CB

There may not be a bigger question mark on the Chiefs roster than cornerback Terrance Mitchell. Mitchell is entering his fourth NFL season, but has yet to be able to stick with one team for an entire season. The Chiefs signed him off the scrap heap last year and by the end of the season he was one of their top three corners along with Marcus Peters and Steven Nelson. Mitchell played great down the stretch for K.C., but can he sustain that success?

Most of the other players on this list need to improve their play from last season in order to have a breakout year. For Mitchell, he just needs to prove he can sustain his success from late in 2016 for an entire year. Chiefs fans have seen a successful start with the team before with Marcus Cooper, but his play quickly fell off after his hot start. The Chiefs have to be hoping (as I am) that Mitchell will be different.

The Chiefs don’t need Mitchell to be a shutdown star cornerback. They have that in Marcus Peters. They just need a solid starting caliber corner opposite him so that the shorter Steven Nelson can focus on playing in the slot. If Mitchell can prove to be that in 2017, it will be a HUGE plus for the defense and make him one of their biggest break out players of the year.
