In what is going to become a little bit of a recurring theme on this list, Jeremy Maclin’s release has left an opening that may allow someone else to break out for the Chiefs in 2017. The first entry on this list that has a shot to do so is second year wide receiver Demarcus Robinson. Robinson was a fourth round pick by the Chiefs in 2016 and spent last season learning the offense and contributing on special teams. That experience likely gives him a leg up on this year’s fourth round pick Jehu Chesson, who just missed making this list.

Coming out of college, Robinson was viewed as a guy with all the talent in the world but questions about his character and work ethic. As far as I know he has had zero issues (at least that we have heard about) since coming to Kansas City. If Robinson has dedicated himself to learning the playbook and making a contribution on offense this season he could potentially be THE receiver that sees the biggest increase in his role on the team in 2017.

I don’t see Robinson becoming Alex Smith’s number one target, but if he were to go from a guy that only played special teams to a guy that catches 40-50 passes this season I would consider that enough of a break out to qualify for the number nine spot on this list.
