The Kansas City Chiefs have had a long offseason to think about their playoff loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The Kansas City Chiefs returned to Kansas City for mandatory minicamp with all players accounted for. While there was concern with the absence of star players from the previous voluntary OTAs, the players showed that they are prepared for the upcoming season.

One player that stood out is Charcandrick West. With Spencer Ware tweaking his hamstring on day one of minicamp, the injury paved the way for other running backs to see an increased workload. West spoke with the KC Star’s Terez Paylor on Wednesday and explained that every rep is more important in his fourth season in the NFL. West, as well as rookie Kareem Hunt, will see an increased workload in Ware’s absence.

West also was outgoing about his preparation this offseason. He said he’s practicing at between 190 and 195 pounds during minicamp and that he feels explosives and quicker than last season. West was listed at 205 in 2016 and ran at his combine at 204. West explained that he trained heavily in the offseason and is intentionally lighter to be able to contribute further in 2017 than he has in seasons past. that bodes well for both West and Kansas City.

On the other side of the ball, the star cornerback Marcus Peters came to minicamp with a similar attitude. His return made a noticeable difference on the field as the intensity of practice rose for minicamp.

Known to be outspoken at times, Peters clearly outlined what this team’s goals are for the 2017 season, saying:

"“We’re getting back into the swing of it. We’re here for a couple of days before we’ve got to be back at camp. We’ve got a mentality, and we’re interested in one thing – the Super Bowl.” – CB Marcus Peters"
