Jeremy Maclin received a two year deal worth a reported $11 million from the Baltimore Ravens, likely a bit more than most predicted.

When the Kansas City Chiefs cut Jeremy Maclin loose earlier in June, it was expected that he would find a quick home but that he might have to take a serious pay cut. Of course, he was earning an average of $11 million per season on the deal that the Chiefs had signed him to for the course of five seasons, but he ended up not doing too bad on his free agent deal with the Baltimore Ravens.

Given two years, he’s got some time to learn the system and feel a bit of security rather than going through all of this again after a single season in a new offense and community. The Ravens can also take that time to learn how to use him and get Maclin acclimated to being a new team’s leader once he gets to know the players, coaches and the system.

At $11 million, Maclin will make a nice amount per season as a recently released player who had to face a limited market in the middle of June. Given free agency in March, perhaps teams would have ponied up more, especially a team like the Chicago Bears who gave that same amount to Markus Wheaton. Maclin certainly would have earned more on the open market, but playing with a limited deck in June, he did just fine for himself.
