How long until Chiefs fans start chanting for Patrick Mahomes?

Get to the point already

When will these chants come for the changing of the guard? We all know they are coming; the question is when. Preseason? Week one? Week 10? Will it be after the first loss? Perhaps after the first interception thrown by Smith?

Talk about pressure. Smith has to have a better camp than Mahomes. He must perform better in the preseason as well. The fans will be watching him like a hawk. Will he take chances knowing his replacement is holding the clipboard, or will he be even more conservative, trying not to make a single mistake? Meanwhile Mahomes is going about things with the attitude of “this is isn’t awkward except for the fact that I hope this isn’t awkward for you.”

Be careful what you ask for. Most people agree that Mahomes is not ready to lead the team this season. The time will come when that no longer matters. As smart as Chiefs fans are, they are doubly passionate. By the way, they are also the loudest.

Chances are Alex will hear the noise.

In closing

Remember, if we see Mahomes on the field this year in anything but garbage time, the Chiefs will not be meeting expectations. Call me an Smith sympathizer if you want to, but I will assure you I am not. I saw Tyreek Hill open downfield against Pittsburgh in the playoff loss like everyone else did, over and over. Mahomes will sell a lot of jerseys, and I will be purchasing one of them.

But let us not forget the condition our beloved Chiefs were in before Smith took his first snap for us. Give him time. He has happened to take you somewhere the Chiefs had not been in some time. The playoffs.

There is a chance Patrick Mahomes could come out and light the football world on fire. The other side of that chance could easily spell disaster not only for the 2017 Chiefs, but a young quarterback that eventually will have the weight of a Kingdom on his shoulders.

The last thing you want to do is become the 12th man for the opposing team. There are not many of us that could handle that kind of pressure.
