The Kansas City Chiefs have officially filled Jeremy Maclin’s roster spot with a new wide receiver in Tevin Jones.

It didn’t take long for the Kansas City Chiefs to fill Jeremy Maclin’s roster spot. The Chiefs have officially signed a new wide receiver just three days after releasing their star veteran with the announcement of a new deal for Tevin Jones.

Jones, a product from the University of Memphis, faces an uphill climb as such a late addition to the roster, but there’s clearly room for at least one undrafted player to likely step up and earn a roster spot if they impress enough. Jones’ college stats hardly stand out as he caught only 90 passes over four seasons with the Tigers. He had 1,215 career receiving yards and 9 touchdowns total. Given the Chiefs’ special teams needs as well, it’s important to note that Jones has zero return experience from his college years.

That said, Jones is a nice physical specimen who was listed at 6’2, 225 at his last stop with the Houston Texans. The Chiefs have brought in other undrafted free agents like Tony Stevens from Auburn or Marcus Drew who are also bigger or longer targets who can potentially create mismatches.

After the release of Jeremy Maclin, the Chiefs are expected to list Tyreek Hill as their overall No. 1 wide receiver. They also have Chris Conley, De’Anthony Thomas, Albert Wilson, rookie Jehu Chesson, Seantavious Jones and DeMarcus Robinson competing for reps and rank at the wideout spot.
