Chicago Bears

The Chicago Bears are certainly retooling their offense this offseason in much the same way that the Kansas City Chiefs have, bringing in a veteran for this season in Mike Glennon before likely handing over the reins for 2018 with Mitch Trubisky. Both quarterbacks could use a dependable receiver in the Windy City given that Alshon Jeffrey has departed in free agency to the Philadelphia Eagles on a one-year deal and Kevin White, the team’s former first round pick, can’t seem to stay healthy. They’ve brought in a few free agent options already in Markus Wheaton, Rueben Randle and Victor Cruz, so it’s clear the front office is doing what they can to give Glennon/Trubisky some options.

Why it might happen: The Bears have nearly $30 million in cap room, so the money is there to make something work. Maclin is also immediately better than anyone the Bears have on their current roster. Giving Maclin a three-year deal for some decent money might make sense here if they want to trump their competition.

Why it might not happen: The Bears might want to rest on their laurels a bit and see how the players they’ve already brought in will work out. Cruz and Randle are trying to get healthy and Wheaton will try to prove his worth after signing a maligned deal in free agency. The Bears might simply decide that as nice as it might be to bring in Maclin, it’s more of a luxury than a need until they try out their current depth chart.
