The Kansas City Chiefs missed few players more than Derrick Johnson in 2016. Johnson believes he’ll be ready for training camp in his return in 2017.

The Chiefs Pro Bowl inside linebacker Derrick Johnson held his annual benefit dinner where players act as waiters for the paying customers. It is an event Johnson has become known for and he recruits high-profile teammates to help him in the process.

Johnson spoke to the media and Chiefs.com in regard to how he is planning is 2017 preparations, saying:

"“I’m on track, just like last time. I never want to put a date on when I’m going to be 100 percent. But will I be at camp? I can say that, yeah. I’ll be at camp, so that’s a positive.” – Chiefs Linebacker Derrick Johnson"

The inside linebacker spot is one weak point on this Chiefs defense. The team will be relying on Johnson to continue to mentor young players such including Ramik Wilson, Justin March and rookie fifth-round draft choice Ukeme Eligwe.

Opinions differ on whether inside linebacker should be a concern or whether it is a low priority position in this era of high-profile passing offenses and three safety defense. The Chiefs may still be looking for a veteran to add to the roster at the position.
