2017 NFL free agency: Kansas City Chiefs transaction tracker

Chiefs sign free agent TE Gavin Escobar
The Chiefs brought in former Dallas Cowboys tight end Gavin Escobar for a visit in late March and decided there and then to not let him get away. The former second round pick never found his lane as a pass-catching option for Dallas, and considering that’s his lone skill set, it wasn’t surprising that the team allowed him to leave in free agency. Still the Chiefs must like his ability to offer another solid pass catcher in two TE sets to help draw defenders from Travis Kelce.

Cairo Santos signs original round qualifying offer
The Chiefs kicker officially signed his his qualifying offer (or tendered contract) from the Chiefs on the first day of offseason activities, which means he will earn $1.797 million on a one-year deal before hitting unrestricted free agency in 2018. As one of the NFL’s most accurate field goal kickers in 2016, it’s a bit surprising other teams weren’t interested in signing Santos to a long-term offer sheet, but Dave Toub will be happy to have the young Brazilian back.
Contract: 1-year, $1.797 million
