2017 NFL free agency: Kansas City Chiefs transaction tracker

Chiefs sign Eric Berry to extension
Dorsey had very little leverage in this transaction. After Berry was already the game’s highest paid safety for several years in the NFL, he made $10.8 million in 2016 after the first franchise tag. Another year would be near $13 million, and Berry then publicly refused to play under it. In short, only a very expensive long-term deal would do, and that’s what Dorsey offered in the end. The good news, the heart and soul of the team’s defense will likely finish his career in K.C.
Contract: 6 years, $78 million
Chiefs release Jamaal Charles
After speculation that the Chiefs might try to restructure Charles’ deal, Dorsey decided to let go of the franchise’s all-time leader in rushing yards instead. Clark Hunt, Andy Reid and Dorsey all gave prepared statements out of respect. As of now, Charles has yet to sign with a new team.
Chiefs allow Dontari Poe to become a free agent
After reaching a deal with Eric Berry before the franchise tag deadline, Dorsey could have used the tag to sign Poe to a one-year deal on the franchise tag and used that leverage to eventually agree to a new long-term deal. Instead, he let Poe walk into free agency. After an extensive round of visits to four different franchises, Poe signed with the Atlanta Falcons
Contract: 1 year, $8 million ($2 million more in incentives)
