The Kansas City Chiefs have announced the signing of former San Francisco 49ers guard Andrew Tiller.

The competition along the offensive line is getting tougher for veterans and rookies alike with the addition of free agent guard Andrew Tiller.

The former San Francisco 49ers lineman started 14 games at both left guard and right guard for the Niners over the last two years and even has experience at center. That’s the sort of versatility that the Chiefs will demand from anyone who makes the team as one of the back-up linemen. Tiller played his college ball at Syracuse and entered the league as a sixth round pick of the New Orleans Saints in 2012.

Even just among familiar veterans, the Chiefs have a stacked competition for those three or so coveted spots as back-up linemen. Tiller joins Mike Person, Jah Reid, Zach Fulton, Jordan Devey and Bryan Witzmann as solid veterans who should be able to step in wherever necessary. On top of that, the Chiefs have young prospects like Damien Mama, Joseph Cheek, Corin Brooks, Isaiah Battle and Josh James waiting in the wings.

Tiller previously visited the Chiefs earlier in free agency but by signing now, he will not be a part of the NFL’s compensation formula. The deadline for FA compensation passed earlier this month.
