The Kansas City Chiefs welcomed to their 2017 draft class along with a slew of undrafted free agents and tryout players to the opening weekend rookie minicamp.

The news of the weekend so far is that Patrick Mahomes has a playbook in hand and is working intensely with quarterback coach Matt Nagy. Nagy was there on nearly every rep that Mahomes has taken to this point in minicamp. It’s evident from the few dropbacks available to the public that Mahomes’ footwork is something they are already working on. The rhythm and technique of his drops in camp to this point have already shown improvement over what he did in college.

In addition, he seems to be connecting with his rookie draft classmates, particularly Kareem Hunt. Hunt commented several times on Mahomes appearance as a leader and that the two connected via text to discuss the playbook and playing with each other “down the road”.

Fellow rookie and wide receiver Jehu Chesson made the play of the day early on. Look for #80 continue to make plays at this working class gets more comfortable in the read offense. Chesson’s demeanor is that of a mature, realistic 4th round selection. He may well carve out a spot in the WR rotation for himself.
