Pick: 6
Team: New York Jets
Selection: Deshaun Watson, QB, Clemson

Deshaun Watson, 21, has been regarded by many to be the most developed quarterback in this draft. After completing three full seasons at Clemson, he gathered the two most prestigious awards in college football: the Heisman Trophy and a National Championship.

A team like the New York Jets desperately need a future. After a season of Ryan Fitzpatrick (34) and Bryce Petty (25), it is evident that the team needs improvement at the most important position on the field. They seem to have little faith in Christian Hackenberg, last year’s pick, despite the lack of opportunity they’ve given him. Enter Watson.

With minimal talent on either side of the ball, Watson will provide youth and hope for a fan base that has been lacking such excitement since 2010.
This selection may come as a surprise, given the amount of holes on the current roster, but the front office will be pressured into giving head coach Todd Bowles a chance to develop a franchise quarterback. Somehow they didn’t give him that chance with Hackenburg, but this is an even higher investment. The Jets take Watson with the hope of hitting on the next Russell Wilson. [Keaton Henry]
