Pick: 10
Team: Buffalo Bills
Selection: Marlon Humphrey, CB Alabama

With the 10th pick of the AA Staff Mock Draft, the Buffalo Bills select Marlon Humphrey from Alabama. Once this pick was announced, I ran into the new GM of the Bills, Lucas Hampton. Here’s what he had to say about this pick. “The losses to our defensive backfield this offseason were big ones and I knew it would take some big talent to fill the void. Humphrey was that guy to replace lost talent. He’s a tall corner at 6’ tall and weighing a nice 197 lbs. He has the height to play very tight coverage. He is also such a speed demon. Humphrey will not allow the least bit of separation from his coverage assignment. The speed and athleticism he possesses allows him to keep up with the speedy receivers. He also can move right along with the slippery, lanky receivers.”

I felt like I had seen this man before with another team, but it I brushed it off. Hampton continued “For all his ability to play tight man coverage, he can play off man pretty well too. His ball skills and football intelligence really impressed us. I did really enjoy the reports from my scouting team that he was not afraid to play the run and make tackles. That kind of fire and willingness to get down and dirty on top of his other skills made Humphrey a no-brainer pick for us.” I thanked him for his time. Mentioning that he would see me later, he left to join his staff with the Titans. Wait, wasn’t he just with the Bills? Maybe it was to talk a trade deal, but maybe it was something else.
