Six-round NFL mock draft gives Dalvin Cook to Chiefs
By Matt Conner
Taywan Taylor, WR, Western Kentucky
Taywan Taylor is a productive wide receiver out of Western Kentucky who unfortunately plays the same sort of role as Tyreek Hill out of the slot. Taylor is 5-11, 203 lbs., which is 20 pounds thicker than Hill, but the duo would be competing for the slot role although Reid could certainly move Hill all over the field and even use him outside at times given his tremendous speed, if Taylor were really the pick here.
There is a lot for many teams to like about Taylor, and it begins with the separation he creates from the slot role. Last season, Taylor had 98 receptions for 1,730 receiving yards and 17 touchdowns. During the 2015 season, Taylor also had 17 touchdowns, so it’s clear he has a nose for the end zone and can take a quick slant all the way to the house. What’s even better for Taylor is that he came up big in his team’s biggest games, including a 121-yard performance against the Alabama Crimson Tide.
For the Chiefs, the team might be interested in adding another wide receiver option to compete with the others in hopes of competition bringing out the best, but it’s also becoming a crowded lot. Jeremy Maclin sits atop the depth chart, and Tyreek Hill is a sure thing after last year’s incredible breakout. Chris Conley has loads of potential, and Albert Wilson is a personal favorite of John Dorsey. The team also has last year’s fourth round pick DeMarcus Robinson in play, as well as veteran De’Anthony Thomas.
That’s not to say that the Chiefs are set at receiver, it’s just that the kind of addition they need is a high ceiling possession receiver more than another mid-round prospect to compete with the ones who have yet to emerge. Then again, maybe Taylor could be that kind of player.
