Another cornerback addition here this late likely means that Dorsey would be content throwing some young pasta at the wall to see what sticks. Even more likely is that it would be Dave Toub making the call as to which young cornerback has the better chance of making the final roster, if any of them would, due to their ability to play well on special teams units.

That’s not to say that Myrick doesn’t have any ability to speak of. In fact, Myrick turned heads at the NFL Combine with a 4.28 second 40-yard dash that set the high mark among all defensive backs (and was upstaged by wide receiver John Ross). If not for Ross’s record-setting moment, we’d likely have talked about Myrick more than we have.

Myrick led the Gophers with 12 passes defended last season and could contribute on the field but the better immediate bet for Myrick would be as a potential returner with that speed. If Tyreek Hill is going to get a lot more reps with the offense, then the team might want to keep him fresh and away from having to play special teams. Myrick could partner with De’Anthony Thomas in the return game, given the added loss of Knile Davis to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Any pick this late on a team as loaded as the Chiefs will face an uphill climb to make the final roster, but having a skill set that features that sort of straight line speed will help. Besides Dorsey only has to look at last year’s roster to see how a late round gem can become an impact player in the right set of circumstances.
