2017 NFL Draft: 5 intriguing prospects from the Chiefs local pro day
By Matt Conner
In a loaded draft class with plenty of talented running backs, King Frazier is already against the odds, but throw in the fact that he’s an older, small school prospect reduces his draft stock even more. But the North Dakota State product showed he can play in the school’s upset of No. 11 Iowa earlier this year, when he averaged 6.2 yards/carry with a touchdown and 99 rushing yards on 16 carries.
The Greenwood, Missouri native checks in at 5-11, 215 lbs. or so, so he’s got the size. He averaged 5.1 yards/carry in his collegiate career, so he was never a man among boys at a smaller level. Scouts will definitely notice that, but he’s moved the chains every year and exhibits a nose for the end zone with 27 career rushing touchdowns.
Frazier’s road to the NFL is an uphill climb already, so there’s no reason to major on those points. But he’s certainly earned the time to get up and close and personal with the decision-makers who matter the most. Given the Chiefs need at the position and how competition for spots like Charcandrick Ware’s would make everyone better, an invitation after the draft to camp might be waiting for Frazier after all.
