George Kittle – Tight End – Iowa

Not every player that I have a huge draft crush on is a first round prospect. Sometimes it’s the scrappy mid round guys that I love the most. That is Iowa tight end George Kittle. I love this guy for multiple reasons. First off, I REALLY want the Chiefs to find an upgrade at the number two tight end spot in this talented tight end draft class. With Travis Kelce on the roster they don’t need to draft one in the first two rounds, so you can cross the elite prospects off your wish list. However, they use two tight ends enough that you can make a case that K.C.’s second tight end is a borderline starting position on their offense. They need to find someone that can be a factor as both a pass catcher and a run blocker.

I believe that is exactly who George Kittle is.

Kittle doesn’t have flashy receiving statistics. In fact, in two years of starting he only totaled 48 career receptions. I know what you are thinking, that he’s mainly just a blocking tight end, right? Not so fast, Kittle is actually a very athletic player and his career yards per reception of 15.4 is actually higher than OJ Howard’s (15.1). Kittle surprised many at the combine when he ran just as fast as Howard did putting up an impressive 4.52 forty time. He also had better vertical and broad jump numbers than Howard did. You add to that his 18 bench press reps and you get a player that is an all around physical talent.

Kittle is a little undersized at 6-foot-4 and 247 pounds but that doesn’t stop him from being aggressive in the run blocking game. In fact, it was his effort as a run blocker that locked in his spot on my draft crush list. Just take a look for yourself.

I think that GIF says about all that needs to be said. I want a number two tight end in this draft. I want him to be a factor in the passing game and a good run blocker. I believe George Kittle is the PERFECT man for the job and would love to see the Chiefs select him in the draft.

Finally, one more tight end option.
