After dissecting Texas Tech prospect Patrick Mahomes in a 10-game film study, Reach returns to the film room to review two more quarterback prospects for the Kansas City Chiefs.

In the forthcoming draft class, it might be tougher to identify the desirable prospects at quarterback than their undesirable counterparts. In our prior draft profile installment, we took an in-depth look at the wildly-talented Patrick Mahomes. My nagging suspicion is that he’s a high ceiling but potentially low floor kind of prospect. I’m convinced that much of what he’ll become at the next level will be contingent upon the quality of coaching afforded him. He’s one of those players it’ll hurt to see flourish in another NFL city, but enough of a risk to be a consolation should that happen.

Today, as promised, we’ll take a look at another first round prospect who’s been linked to the Chiefs throughout the pre-draft process: former Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson. At the NFL Combine in early March, the Chiefs conducted a formal interview with Watson (along with several other top quarterback prospects), and for good reason. His two consecutive appearances in the BCS National Championship Game are just the tip of the iceberg of his success in the college ranks. Anything less than careful consideration of that kind of prospect is gross negligence on the part of your organization.

April’s underway so the curtain’s closing on doing additional draft profiles. In the interest of time, I’ve also committed half of this week’s 10-game film study to Cal quarterback Davis Webb. I watched five games of each player. In Watson’s case, I watched his games against Auburn, NC State, Louisville, Florida State and Georgia Tech. For Webb, I watched contests with San Diego State, UCLA, Hawaii, Stanford and Oregon. I’ll be using the prior format to detail my in-game thoughts/observations of each prospect. It’s informal, but true to the real-time reactions I had to the game tape.

Shall we?
