The Kansas City Chiefs have shown interest in a kicker close to home, Northwest Missouri State’s Simon Mathiesen.

Cairo Santos is entering the last year of his initial NFL contract, and while it doesn’t necessarily mean anything that the Kansas City Chiefs are doing their homework on every player, it’s interesting that they’ve been linked to multiple kickers heading into this year’s NFL Draft.

The Chiefs have already been linked with the top kicker in the draft: Arizona State’s Zane Gonzalez. Gonzalez is the most prolific field goal kicker in NCAA history, setting records for both attempts and makes in his time with the Sun Devils. On the other side of the spectrum, the Chiefs have also checked out an option closer to home, zeroing in on Northwest Missouri State’s Simon Mathiesen.

The Chiefs aren’t the only ones interested in the small-school product. Per the Maryville Daily Forum, he’s drawn interest from several other franchises.

"Mathiesen has drawn interest from a handful of NFL teams including the Denver Broncos, Indianapolis Colts, Kansas City Chiefs, Seattle Seahawks, and the New York Jets."

Mathiesen made 18 of 21 field goals last year, including a longest kick of 47 yards. He was 5 of 8 from beyond 40 yards. You can check out some highlights from Mathiesen’s career below:
