When it comes to the Chiefs second pick, Bucky Brooks has the Chiefs doubling down on the defensive line in consecutive second rounds with the selection of Montravius Adams. The defensive tackle out of Auburn is a big body who could come along slowly given the team’s depth at the position for 2017. Broks writes:

"Adams is a potential replacement for Dontari Poe. Kansas City needs a big guy who can be a power player up front. Adams could be that guy. He has cat-like quickness, which is surprising for a man of his size. I think he can make a tremendous impact right away."

If Adams does make an instant impact, it would be a luxury. The Chiefs have Allen Bailey and Jaye Howard returning from injury next year and they also signed Bennie Logan to a big money deal to replace Poe already. Chris Jones is the most talented of the bunch, meaning Adams would likely enter the season battling Rakeem Nunez-Roches and Jarvis Jenkins for a final rotational spot.

That said, Howard and Logan will be free agents next year at this time, and Bailey will be entering the final year of a pricey extension that might prove cost prohibitive. If Bailey can’t return to form, the Chiefs could find themselves with only Jones and Adams along with developmental or veteran parts.
