Derrick Johnson is another member of the Chiefs who does an incredible job of giving back to the community through a series of reading rooms.

Derrick Johnson’s civic service continues in and around the Kansas City metro area with the announcement of two new Discovery Den locations, his 11th and 12th such reading rooms placed inside metro elementary schools in the hope of supporting literacy and providing educators and students with brand new books.

"“Thousands of books create the atmosphere of how important education is, and the impact I have playing for the Chiefs, I think I’m doing a pretty good job putting a positive image to kids,” Johnson told Fox 4."

Johnson has been opening Discovery Den locations through his Defend the Dream Foundation. He opened his 10th location last November.

Johnson has been hard at work this offseason in rehabilitation for an Achilles injury as well, as he fights off age in an attempt to come back strong and man the heart of the Chiefs defense as he has for so many years. The team’s all-time leading tackler recently signed a restructured contract worth $10.25 million over the next two years, giving the Chiefs some much-needed cap room.
