John Dorsey said on Thursday that he fully expects tight end Travis Kelce to be completely healthy by training camp.
The Kansas City Chiefs don’t seem to be worried about the word “injury” being linked to star tight end Travis Kelce at all. General manager John Dorsey, speaking from the NFL’s annual meetings in Phoenix, said on Thursday that he expects Kelce to be back and ready for training camp at full strength.
"“I know from a rehabilitation standpoint, he’s ahead,” Dorsey said. “I can’t say what level he’ll be at, but he’ll be 100 percent for training camp. For OTAs, he may be able to walk through and do some things.”"
Kelce had offseason shoulder surgery, but Andy Reid spoke at the NFL Combine and told reporters the timeline wouldn’t be a problem. Dorsey’s words only serve to emphasize that point that Kelce’s surgery and rehabilitation shouldn’t be anything but a minor storyline.
Kelce had a breakthrough season last year for the Chiefs and earned his second Pro Bowl nomination in the process. He caught 85 passes for 1,125 yards and 4 touchdowns. Kelce is certainly very comfortable in the offense at this point and timing with Alex Smith has never been better, so the Chiefs have no need to rush him in case there are concerns about his readiness when it comes to training camp.
