Locked on Chiefs: Draft plan for linebacker corps
By Ryan Tracy
The second level of the Kansas City Chiefs defense has long been a strength of this team. Now it is in need of reinforcements.
This week on the podcast, ArrowheadPride’s Seth Keysor and I are in the war room, building the positional draft plans for the Kansas City Chiefs.
Just two seasons ago, the Chiefs sent three of their four starting linebackers to the Pro Bowl. Derrick Johnson was named the MVP of that Pro Bowl. Due to multiple injuries and the decline of Tamba Hali the position was the strength of the defense is now the biggest question mark.
Going into the 2017 draft the Kansas City Chiefs need help at both the inside and outside linebacker positions. Insurance against a delayed recovery for Derrick Johnson is possibly the highest priority in this draft. Likewise, a young pass-rusher would be a wise investment in case Justin Houston’s recovery is not 100%. Tamba Hali is a situational player at this point in his career.
Linebacker should be a common position selected in this draft for Kansas City.
