Every team in the AFC West has met with Joe Mixon, except for the Kansas City Chiefs.

There’s a good possibility that Kansas City Chiefs fans will see quite a bit of Oklahoma running back Joe Mixon in the next few years. Judging by his pre-draft visits, Mixon stands a decent chance of landing in the AFC West. The San Diego Chargers were the latest team to hold a private workout with Mixon, joining the Oakland Raiders and Denver Broncos in the last few days.

So far, we’ve seen no movement on the part of the Kansas City Chiefs to visit with Mixon themselves, nor have there been any rumors of an upcoming visit. The Chiefs have a need at running back, having already released Jamaal Charles and limping into the offseason with a fading Spencer Ware at season’s end and a serious lack of production from Charcandrick West. Ware clearly faded down the stretch and seems to work well in tandem with another back, which makes a draft investment worthwhile, especially with such a loaded draft class. The team has already signed C.J. Spiller, but it’s debatable how much is left in the veteran’s tank, although it’s a nice camp body to bring in for the sake of competition at running back and returner.

The talent level with Mixon makes him a definite player to check out for the Chiefs, even at the bottom of the first, but that’s only if general manager John Dorsey feels comfortable with his character issues and arrest record. Dorsey is willing to wade into those waters, as illustrated by last year’s drafting of Tyreek Hill in the fifth round, but maybe not again or at such a high draft value. Then again, Dorsey quickly let KeiVarae Russell walk last year after investing a third on him for a still unknown reason.
