NFL Draft 2017: WR Amba Etta-Tawo compared to Chris Conley
By Matt Conner
The Kansas City Chiefs were among the many teams checking in on Syracuse football’s pro day, where they watched wide receiver Amba Etta-Tawo among other prospects.
The Kansas City Chiefs already have one young, speedy, physical receiver on the roster in Chris Conley. They might be interested in another. Amba Etta-Tawo is a one-year Syracuse product after transferring from Maryland, but he made a significant impact in that single season with 94 catches for 1,482 yards and 14 touchdowns.
The knock on Etta-Tawo is that he’s largely a one-year wonder which raises red flags many times that the player might not be set for long-term success, rather more of a product of a system’s scheme and emphasis. That definitely applies in Etta-Tawo’s case for some scouts, but the raw physical tools are most certainly in place and could intrigue the right team with a later pick if they can project him to be productive down the road.
Etta-Tawo’s NFL.com profile compares him to Chris Conley, an interesting choice considering that Conley proved himself to be a great physical specimen at the Combine who suffered from playing in Georgia’s run-heavy attack. Conley never had the standout stats that Etta-Tawo produced, with a career-high of only 657 receiving yards during his senior season.
