2017 NFL mock draft: Deshaun Watson lands with Chiefs again
By Matt Conner
Another mock draft brings yet another mention of Deshaun Watson falling to the Kansas City Chiefs.
Could the planets actually align to make it happen? Fans can only dream, but one mock draft after another continues to give the Kansas City Chiefs a real chance of drafting Deshaun Watson in the first round at No. 27 overall—a move that gives the team a real franchise quarterback prospect without having to give up significant assets to move up and grab him.
Watson would give the Chiefs a real first-round talent who also brings with him first-round intangibles. It’s easy to see why the Chiefs would love to actually get their hands on a player like Watson, whose leadership is celebrated by anyone who’s ever been around him. Watson has played his best in the biggest games, has never been an off-the-field distraction and seems to make everyone around him better. In short, he’s a high-character leader who can get the job done on the field.
Watson threw for 41 touchdowns and 17 interceptions last season with the Clemson Tigers. He threw 90 touchdowns and only 32 INTs in his collegiate career with a completion percentage of 67.4% over three years. As if that’s not enough, Watson also ran for 1,934 yards and rushed for 26 touchdowns as well.
If the Chiefs are going to find a long-term answer at quarterback, having Watson fall in their lap would certainly be one of the most providential ways for it to happen.
