Dontari Poe rumors: Falcons, Colts, Raiders among free agent suitors

Jacksonville Jaguars
Why it would work: Money. Lots and lots of money. The Jaguars have the salary cap space to sign a player like Poe and they’re not afraid to import free agents. They rid themselves of Roy Miller, a longtime veteran in the middle, and Sen’Derrick Marks, a versatile veteran coming off of serious injury, which means there are spaces there even after the signing of Calais Campbell and last year’s big signing of Malik Jackson. Tyson Alualu is still a free agent and the Jags might believe Poe to be the better player of the two.
Poe also scheduled an early visit with them, just after the Indianapolis Colts. That’s a good sign that he’s open to signing there and he might be intrigued by the team’s new additions. Someone has to win the AFC South and this could be the year the Jags turn the corner.
Why it wouldn’t work: Of any team checking in on Poe, the Jaguars have zero connection to Poe and the least familiarity. It almost makes more sense to bring Alualu back to work with Sheldon Day and Malik Jackson to see what develops versus another high-dollar defensive lineman. In addition, if Poe gets his chance to pick from any team in the NFL, is he going to Jacksonville?
Odds: 7-1
