Rumors had the Atlanta Falcons as the early favorites to sign Dontari Poe, but the Colts have the first visit, which is usually the one that matters for free agency.

The market for Dontari Poe is heating up. After days suggesting that the defensive tackle might have to settle for a one-year deal to showcase his skills and re-enter the market next spring, perhaps the line of suitors at this point will allow Poe to enjoy some long-term security after all.

The Indianapolis Colts were our predicted landing spot for Poe all along. The need makes too much sense along a defense front that desperately needs an anchor in the middle. Poe is also a known quantity to new general manager Chris Ballard, who took over for Ryan Grigson after he was fired earlier this offseason.

Poe has lingering back issues that might concern teams about his long-term health, so individual physicals will be very important with any and all visits that Poe takes. Still he’s only 26 years old and played more snaps than any Chiefs defensive lineman last season (and over 4,000 in his career). There’s plenty left in the tank, even if exactly how much is up for debate.

Poe had 27 tackles and 1.5 sacks last season for the Chiefs.
