Kansas City Chiefs

Tony Romo has kept the Chiefs on this list throughout the offseason with his statement that he desires to play for the franchise (among others). The Chiefs have been rumored to have “no interest,” which begs the question why they’re even in the conversation, but there’s a potentially strong fit here along with the fact that Las Vegas also doesn’t believe the Chiefs‘ reported disinterest.

The Chiefs have publicly backed Alex Smith all offseason, with statements coming from the team owner, the general manager and the head coach. That’s the sort of overwhelming support that should let Smith sleep at night, but on the off chance that it was all a smokescreen, let’s explore the idea that Romo could, in fact, come to Kansas City.

The weapons that the Texans have are also in play here in Kansas City. Travis Kelce would become an immediate favorite, given as much as Romo enjoyed throwing the Jason Witten. Jeremy Maclin would also love being the featured wideout in a Romo-ran offense, given how good Dez Bryant looked with Romo at the helm. Tyreek Hill will thrive even more with another year of experience and game plans that include him from the start, and Chris Conley has flashed all the potential without having yet broke through.

But what about Alex Smith? Would the Chiefs trade him? If so, they would find a definite partner given how many teams are needing a new starter. Either way, keeping Smith or substiting Romo, the Chiefs will likely pair either one with a rookie quarterback for the sake of the future.
