Kansas City Chiefs offer second-round tender to Daniel Sorensen
By Matt Conner
The worst case scenario for Sorensen, then, at this point is that he makes $2.7 million next season with the Chiefs. Given that Sorensen has only made $1.3 million in his three-year NFL career (“only” is relative here), this total is twice as much for a single season. Not a bad deal for Sorensen. The upside is that he’s handsomely paid either at a place he knows well or with a new team who wants him that much.
As for the Chiefs, Sorensen was a very underrated player for the defense last season. The Chiefs often play with six defensive backs on the field, so Sorensen likely plays a lot more than most fans realize. With 54 tackles, 3 interceptions, 2 forced fumbles, 3 fumble recoveries and 1 sack, it’s likely that others teams are noticing the hidden gem listed below Eric Berry and Ron Parker on the depth chart. The Chiefs know it too, which is why they protected their asset with a second round tender.
Will teams want to cough up the money and a second round pick? That’s not likely. Then again Sorensen is only 27, so if a team wanted a veteran safety upgrade with his best years still ahead of him, he’s a nice pick.
