NFL Combine 2017: Myles Garrett, Joe Mixon and 4 other winners
By Matt Conner
Myles Garrett, DL, Texas A&M
What can we say about Myles Garrett that hasn’t already been said. Ten years from now, we will mention Garrett as a multiple All-Pro performer for whichever team is smart enough — ahem, Cleveland Browns — to take him up top. If the Browns end up going with a quarterback, then the 49ers will have their defensive cornerstone upon which to build for the next half decade and a reboot will be coming much more swiftly for whichever team takes him.
Garrett wowed everyone at the Combine with an overall package that displayed tremendous strength (33 reps on the bench press), speed (4.64 seconds in the 40-yard dash), athleticism (41-inch vertical jump) and whatever a broad jump measures (128 inches, second only to Haason Reddick from Temple). In every category, Garrett stood out as the best or among the best for the rarest of skill sets: a complete package without a single weakness.
Then again, everyone knew that before Garrett showed up in Indianapolis in the first place. There’s a reason why Garrett has been considered the top overall player on draft boards for months and a competition against his peers was only going to exacerbate that difference. There’s no competition at the top of the draft. It’s simply Myles Garrett and everyone else.
