Jets rumors: Anthony Fasano draws interest from New York teams
By Matt Conner
Both the New York Giants and New York Jets have expressed interest in former Kansas City Chiefs tight end Anthony Fasano.
A familiar face might end up in the Big Apple if early rumors are correct that both the New York Giants and New York Jets are interested in Anthony Fasano. The former Kansas City Chiefs tight end is hitting free agency after finishing up his contract with the Tennessee Titans.
Fasano signed a two-year deal with the Titans in 2015 worth just over $5.2 million. Now at the age of 32, Fasano is likely to command a one- or two-year deal worth about the same amount — maybe 2-year, $4 million — to play elsewhere. At this point, Fasano is not a starting tight end, but he’s averaged 26 receptions every year in his 11 year NFL career and he’s a willing blocker.
Fasano played for two years in Kansas City, but failed to play out his full contract after signing a 4-year, $16 million deal with the Chiefs in 2013. He was released just two years into the contract in 2015.
With the Giants, Fasano would likely slot at No. 2 behind Will Tye and ahead of Jerell Adams, last year’s sixth round choice. Tye had 48 catches last season, a career-high, and should become more of a presence in the passing game next season.
The Jets are losing Kellen Davis and have the once-promising Austin Sefarian-Jenkins in house, but a consistent presence like Fasano would provide a useful veteran on offense and special teams who can also help the Jets youthful transition.
