Brandon Flowers and Shaun Draughn were two of the former Chiefs taking part in a business symposium at the University of Michigan.

Several former players from the Kansas City Chiefs joined numerous other NFL players, past and present, by participating in a business academy at the University of Michigan. Former Chiefs cornerback Brandon Flowers, running back Shaun Draughn and defensive tackle Kendall Reyes joined the group for a special five-day event that helped educate players on all aspects of financial management and how they will transition from the pros into post-NFL life.

The seminars included sessions on real estate, franchising and philanthropy management, each of which are serious issues which can cost many uneducated players a lot of money. Many NFL players have a dream of setting up a charity or non-profit in their name, but mismanagement of these endeavors or even for-profit ventures can cost players the extra capital they have. Dreams of investments reaping dividends can quickly become money pits that leave the player without a nest egg.

"“NFL players have always expressed an interest in expanding their knowledge of business practices and philanthropy management,” said Arthur McAfee, Senior Vice President of NFL Player Engagement. “The Business Academy at the University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business provides invaluable experience and ultimately enhances the professional development of our current and former players.”"

Other players taking part in the week of classes include Jabari Greer, Jameis Winston, Jake Long, David Baas, Orlando Pace and Taiwan Jones. The office for NFL Player Engagement heads this venture for the NFLPA in conjunction with the Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan, named for Stephen Ross, owner of the Miami Dolphis.
