Javier Arenas has officially moved on from the NFL by signing with the Ottawa Redblacks of the Canadian Football League.

At one point, Javier Arenas was the return Scott Pioli wanted for the trade of franchise icon and future Hall of Famer Tony Gonzalez. Today he is officially a member of the Ottawa Redblacks, a franchise in the Canadian Football League.

The Redblacks announced the signing on Thursday, interestingly labeled “international defensive back”, which means Arenas’ NFL career is likely over. Arenas lasted five seasons in the NFL, including three with the Kansas City Chiefs who drafted the cornerback and return man in the second round of the 2010 NFL Draft.

Arenas failed to live up to the high expectations that come with being a Top 50 pick in the NFL. He never returned a single kick or punt for a touchdown, although he did have two interceptions his sophomore season for the Chiefs. He finished his Chiefs career with 130 tackles, 5 sacks and those 2 interceptions.

Arenas was traded after three seasons to the Arizona Cardinals for fullback Anthony Sherman.
