Chiefs rumors: Brandon Marshall doesn’t make sense for Kansas City
By Matt Conner
The New York Jets recently released Brandon Marshall. Should the Chiefs check in on the veteran wide receiver?
Brandon Marshall is now a free agent. The veteran wide receiver has proven to be very valuable as he advances into his mid-thirties. Nearly 33-years-old, Marshall suffered through a miserable season with the lowly New York Jets and is now ready to find a “better fit.”
Marshall once again started 15 games last season, his tenth straight season of at least 13 starts. He caught 59 passes for 788 yards and 3 touchdowns. Many teams are likely looking at the 128 targets and only 59 catches wondering how much the Jets quarterback situation — Ryan Fitzpatrick, Bryce Petty, Geno Smith — was to blame. Reading that list makes it obvious.
The year prior shows just how consistent Marshall can be in an offense. Even when defenses key in on him, he can still bring the ball down with his size and experience. In 2015, Marshall 109 catches for 1,502 yards and a league-leading 14 touchdowns. In his career, Marshall has caught 82 touchdown passes in 11 years.
What’s even more impressive for Marshall is his adaptability. Three times he has changed teams and each time he has enjoyed a banner year within a newly learned offense. Marshall apparently needs no time getting used to a new coach and quarterback. Marshall’s first year for the Dolphins featured 86 catches for 1,014 yards and 3 touchdowns. His first year in Chicago? 118 catches for 1,508 yards and 11 touchdowns. And 2015 was his first year in New York.
