Former Chiefs quarterback Chase Daniel is being dangled to different teams around the NFL, and the Chicago Bears have been rumored as a “potential landing spot.”

Chase Daniel is still waiting for his chance to start in the NFL. After backing up Alex Smith for three years in Kansas City, Daniel finally fled the nest for a starting opportunity in Philadelphia. However, the Eagles surprised everyone with a major move in the draft to select Carson Wentz, relegating Daniel back to the bench once again. Now, however, he might finally get his chance if he’s traded in the next few weeks.

The rumors are swirling that the Eagles are very open to sending their back-up quarterback somewhere and there are plenty of teams who could use some help at the position. Enter the Chicago Bears, a team likely to cut Jay Cutler loose who are also looking for potential at the position.

The Bears make sense for Daniel in that general manager Ryan Pace would be very familiar with Daniel, since both got their start for the New Orleans Saints. Pace would know well the upside with Daniel as well as the kind of scenario within which he could succeed best. It’s just a question of whether the price is right and the longing is there. After all, Bears fans might not be too happy settling on someone else’s back-up rather than grab a sexy name in the draft.

Perhaps Pace could do both, cutting Cutler loose for the ability to grab two new faces in the offseason. Brian Hoyer and Matt Barkley are both free agents with the new league year and cutting Cutler would clean house entirely. Bringing in Daniel alongside a prospect like Notre Dame’s DeShone Kizer, for example, could be exciting for the Bears organization.

Daniel has only two starts in his NFL career of seven seasons, going 1-1 in those starts with a single touchdown and interception to his name.
