3. Dontari Poe
Now we get to one of our own. Poe is a very tricky evaluation because as much as Kansas City fans love the guy, he’s not a great player. However, he’s a very good one and he’s integral to what the Chiefs do on defense.
Getting into stats with Poe is a useless chore. His job can’t be measured by the amount of sacks and tackles he has, because it’s not about that here. Poe is supposed to get push in the pocket and take on a double team, allowing the men around him to clean up that mess. The question is how much is that worth?
If a team offers Poe anything north of $10 million per year, Dorsey should walk away. The Chiefs could absolutely go with Jaye Howard on the nose, with Chris Jones and Allen Bailey starting on either side of him. All that said, Poe is beloved in the locker room by all accounts and at 26 years old, is in the prime of his career. If the Chiefs can work out something around four years and $36 million, they should do it.
