The Kansas City Chiefs might have some money to spend this offseason. Here are five players the team should target in March.

On March 7, the NFL opens up the lines of communications from all 32 clubs to every free agent in the league. A contract can’t be signed until 4 p.m. EST on March 9, but you can talk all you want. In other words, welcome to the tampering period.

On the surface, the Kansas City Chiefs won’t be big players this offseason. They have a pair of big-name free agents in Dontari Poe and Eric Berry, and only $8 million to spend once you factor in rollover cap money.

However, Kansas City can create ample space by releasing Nick Foles and Jamaal Charles, not to mention Tyler Bray and Josh Mauga if it chooses to do so. My assumption is that most, if not all, of that will happen. In that case, the Chiefs have about $30 million in space.

Here are the five players I would go after…

5. Martellus Bennett

Yes, a tight end. Look, the Chiefs love their two-tight end sets, and while Demetrius Harris is an NFL player, he’s nothing special. Bennett would be an incredible fit for this offense. He can block and catch, and he’s a smart guy who just won a championship. This admittedly would be a tough sell, having him play second fiddle to Travis Kelce, but money talks.
