Locked on Chiefs – Moving ahead taller task for Dorsey

John Dorsey’s job has gotten a bit harder leading up to the thickest part of the off-season evaluation cycle.

With the departure of Chris Ballard to take the general manager position with the Indianapolis Colts, John Dorsey has a vacuum where his primary talent evaluator had been. Ballard had worked his way up the Chiefs’ front office under Dorsey to become a critical asset in developing the Kansas City roster. The Senior Bowl was an opportunity the Chiefs generally take full advantage of. Several notable draft picks of the Dorsey era are players who stood out at the Senior Bowl. Without Ballard in place to lend his evaluations to the process, more pressure will fall on Dorsey himself.

The Chiefs have to co-directors of player personnel. Either could be a possible candidate for promotion to director of football operations replacing Ballard. It is also possible that the team leads the hierarchy intact as it stands today and off to bring in additional evaluators or analytics professionals to round out the football operations team during the run-up to the NFL draft.

Travis Kelce did something remarkable again on Sunday night.

Lost with all the news of Chris Ballard’s departure to the Indianapolis Colts, Travis Kelce and his Chiefs teammates were making some noise in Florida.

Kelce was named MVP of the Pro Bowl after his memorable performance, 36 yards receiving, one touchdown and one enthusiastic celebration. Kelce also got a critical first down on a fake punt that started with Dustin Colquitt. Kelce received a new car with the honor and struck a pose with it (below).

In the meantime, Kelce’s KC teammates made notable contributions to the AFC team’s win. Alex Smith threw another touchdown for the AFC team, in addition, the second-year player and first-time pro bowler DJ Alexander led the AFC defense with nine tackles.
