The Kansas City Chiefs made a trade on Tuesday morning, shipping running back Knile Davis to the Green Bay Packers.

Kansas City refused to let all of us get a little extra sleep this morning, jolting us out of bed with a trade. The Chiefs sent fourth-year running back Knile Davis to the Packers, getting a conditional late-round pick in exchange, per multiple reports.

Honestly, this was the end of a long saga. Davis had been on the trading block for about a year and a half. When Jamaal Charles was hurt with a torn ACL in Week 5 of last season, everyone assumed it would be Davis taking over in the backfield. Instead, Davis continued to ride the pine while we got to know Spencer Ware and Charcandrick West. Once West and Ware were signed to extensions this offseason, Davis’s fate was sealed.

Personally, I wish Davis all the best. He was a dynamite return man during his 3+ years in Kansas City. He also authored one of the most memorable moments in recent memory, scorching the Houston Texans for a 108-yard kick return touchdown on the opening play of the 2016 Wild Card Game.

Give the man credit for one thing, he never became a distraction. All told, Davis finished his Chiefs career with three return touchdowns and 775 rushing yards to go with 11 more scores.
