Reasons Not to Worry

I can point back to the talent of this team as a reason not to worry but who will get them the ball? Here’s a bold prediction, Alex Smith will get back to his slightly better than middle of the pack self soon. Smith is too smart and experienced to let three bad games bring down his entire season. He will get on the same page with his receivers again to move the ball. The things that he needs to take care of are his own trust issues with his offensive line and his own arm.

As far as beating the good teams, Reid can affect that directly. Often in the bigger games Reid gets away from what works and tries to do things that his team cannot. This team has shown that it can run the ball up the middle and nail intermediate throws. Yet what is Reid thinking when he gives every one of his players an opportunity for a screen?

Sure, Philadelphia was effective against the Steelers with screens but you have to know that Tomlin will adjust. The first two plays of the game were intermediate routes completed to Chris Conley and Jeremy Maclin. Then, when scoring became a possibility the intermediate passing game went away. Reid will eventually adjust to his team instead of trying to force a square peg into a round hole.

Another reason to hope is that the secondary, while young is very talented. It was frustrating to watch these young guys run a cover two when the more experienced guys clearly ran a cover three. This points to a simple lack of experience that will come as the season progresses. Chiefs fans may see one of the best secondaries in the league by the end of this season.
