Chiefs have talent, but enough tenacity to stop Jets?

Chiefs defense must pick up from where it left off

When the Chiefs take the field on defense they should have a good chance to slow down the Jets. Kansas City showed against the Texans an ability to take away the running game. That ability could be a big key against NY. If the Chiefs can make the Jets a one-dimensional team then they will have a much better chance of getting after the passer as well. Kansas City’s pass rush is still closer to anemic than flourishing, but they sometimes get to the QB.

The Jets could be without star wide receiver Brandon Marshall but will still have Eric Decker. NY is hoping Marshall will be healthy. If he can’t go the Chiefs chances of keeping Fitzpatrick in check go way up. Taking away Fitzpatrick’s biggest weapon on a team with limited talent at the skilled positions is a big step towards making a big statement.

The Chiefs linebackers have to continue where they left off from last week when it comes to stopping the run. Kansas City needs to bottle up Forte and make him work for every inch he gains. Forte still looks like a great tail back.

His prior injuries suggest he can’t take the beating of an every down running back. Derrick Johnson and Justin March played well against the Texans. March is still growing into his role as a starter. His instincts will create havoc in the middle of the offense.

The Chiefs offense and defense is fully capable of taking the game to the Jets from the get go. They should be able to take the Jets offense and shut them down. Bob Sutton will have a very good game plan on how to stop his old team.

While Kansas City has the ability the question becomes is it something they will do. Can Reid find his magic from last season and start the Chiefs down another big winning streak?
