Chiefs’ victory was greatest I’ve ever seen

I’m fully prepared to stand by the extraordinary claim the headline of this article makes. If you’ve seen a better regular season win by the Kansas City Chiefs, I’m anxious to hear which one it was. There are several contests that immediately come to mind when I think of the best regular season Chiefs game I’ve ever watched.

You could easily choose the 41-14 drubbing of the New England Patriots in 2014. Bill Belichick and company were humiliated, before a national audience, in a game that may have served as the catalyst for that Patriots team to eventually win the Super Bowl (later that season).

Who could forget Kansas City’s Halloween miracle on Monday Night Football in 2011? Philip Rivers and the Chargers were again victim to an improbable comeback win by the Chiefs. Late in regulation, Rivers fumbled on a kneel down as San Diego was closing in on a game-winning field goal. Speaking of late-game foibles, how about Dwayne Rudd’s helmet-tossing incident that extended the 2002 season opener and led to a game-cinching, 30-yard field goal by Morten Andersen?

My memories only go back roughly 30 years so pardon my ignorance of games prior to, say, the mid-1980’s. I’m sure there are other games, from prior eras, that one could consider.

Today, I’m going to make a case for Sunday’s 33-27 win over San Diego as the single, greatest regular season feat in franchise history. There are several reasons why I’d make such a claim. If all hearts and minds are clear, let’s get into them.
