In somewhat of a surprising move, the Kansas City Chiefs have released inside linebacker Ramik Wilson.

Earlier on Sunday, it was reported that general manager John Dorsey had claimed inside linebacker Sam Barrington off waivers from the Green Bay Packers. With that claim, the Chiefs had to release a man from the 53-man roster announced yesterday, and did so in surprising fashion.

Wlison enjoyed a solid rookie season last year on special teams and even make a few contributions defensively when Josh Mauga missed time. However, with the emergence of March and the addition of Barrington, who is only 25 years old, Dorsey felt comfortable moving on.

Kansas City might want to bring Wilson back on its practice squad, although there is a decent chance that one of the other 31 teams puts in a waiver claim on him. If that scenario happens, Wilson is gone.

The Chiefs could have cut a tight end or running back instead, considering they are carrying four at each position (you typically carry three at each spot). However, Dorsey decided to cut a man from the same position.

Barrington could come in and start right away for the Chiefs. He was very productive in 2014 with seven starts, racking up more than 50 tackles and a sack. Last year, Barrington missed the final 15 games with an ankle injury, but if healthy, has shown the ability to play at a high level.
