2. Cornerback

It’s not secret that the Chiefs need to find some answers in the secondary. Marcus Peters is an absolute stud but beyond him, there are question marks throughout the depth chart.

With the departure of Sean Smith in free agency, Kansas City was left with a gaping hole. Dorsey tried to fill it with the drafting of KeiVarae Russell and D.J. White, but neither seem to be immediate answers. Russell has barely seen the field in the preseason for reasons unknown, and White was lit up against the Los Angeles Rams in his only starting action.

The main focus will be on Phillip Gaines. How much, if at all, does Gaines play in this contest? He has only been on the field for one preseason game as he continues to build up strength in his rehabbed torn ACL. Gaines is a very good corner when healthy, but if he is not ready to go, the Chiefs have a major problem.

Also, Steven Nelson is likely to be the starting slot corner at the moment. Can he hold down the nickel or does he need to be moved outside and let Gaines slide inside? These are all things to watch as we head into Game 4.
