*I believe that Ron Parker, Daniel Sorensen, and Eric Murray can all play valuable snaps for the Chiefs at safety this season. That having been said, they need Eric Berry in that rotation for the position to be solid. Parker plays a good center field where the play stays in front of him. Sorensen is a good physical safety and Murray looks like he has some real upside but needs time to adjust and develop. I also really like Tyrell Adams, but I’m not sure another physical safety makes the team if both Berry and Sorensen are healthy and active.

*I had high hopes that either Justin March or Ramik Wilson would supplant Josh Mauga as the starter at inside linebacker next to Derrick Johnson. What I’ve seen the first two preseason games makes me wonder if that’s possible. The spot next to DJ is meant to be the linebacker that takes linemen head on that get past the defensive line.

I already stated that I believe more linemen are getting through to the second level because the defensive line is trying to penetrate and it looks to me that neither Wilson or March are especially suited to take on linemen head on. Both of these young linebackers look better suited to play DJ’s spot where they are free to roam to the ball but if KC’s DL are going to be playing like we’ve seen in the preseason it becomes all the more vital that they can take on and shed blockers. Despite the athletic upside of KC’s young ILBs it may prove that Mauga is the best man for the job if he is healthy.

*While I have stated that the defensive line attacking the backfield creates some issues for the inside linebackers it doesn’t change the fact that KC’s top four defensive linemen look fantastic. The foursome of Dontari Poe, Jaye Howard, Allen Bailey (who looked especially good on Saturday) and rookie Chris Jones look like the best defensive line the Chiefs have had in a very long time. All four look powerful and athletic enough to cause issues in the pass game. I really hope that KC can develop some outside pass rush, but if not the four big guys up front look ready to pick up some of the slack.

Those are my main thoughts on the game versus the Rams. What do you think Addicts? Do you agree with my assessments? Did I miss anything major that stood out to you? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below.

As always, thanks for reading and GO CHIEFS!!!!!!!!!
